Ricky Oney, Age 32, Louisville, Kentucky

For Team USA marathon runner Ricky Oney, every step in the race is an awesome accomplishment. Ricky, you see, is legally blind and suffers from hearing loss and mental disabilities. Much of Ricky's childhood was spent in a children's treatment center, alone, wishing mostly to someday have a homeof his own. With the help of dedicated volunteers,

Ricky eventually blossomed to be an independent and courageous man.  He has been a Special Olympics athlete for more than 15 years and really looks forward to his run at the Special Olympics World Games in North Carolina.

For every athlete competing in Special Olympics, there's a story like Cameron's and Kristi's and Ricky's - a story that embodies real values. Values you support and lift up to your community when you sponsor an athlete at the 1999 Special Olympics World Games in North Carolina.

A Chance to 'Be Brave"

A final note about these inspirational athletes: When Cameron, Kristi, Ricky and all Special Olympics athletes choose to compete, they make a solemn oath, "Let me win, but if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt." As we reflect on our careers with athletes, we have to admit that we've seen none braver than these. Won't you help give them the chance to "be brave?"

Thank you, and we look forward to hearing from you soon.
